A party that thrills a 5-year-old can bore a 12-year-old, and the reverse. After more than 1,000 parties across Tampa Bay, we've learned what works at each age. Here's a quick guide to party ideas, guest counts and timing, from preschool to the early teens.

At a glance

  • Ages 4–5: 1 hour, 4–6 guests. Simple themes, short activities, lots of grown-up help.

  • Ages 6–7: 1–1.5 hours, 6–8 guests. Crafts, dress-up and a big "wow" moment.

  • Ages 8–9: 1.5 hours, 8–10 guests. Hands-on activities they can take home.

  • Age 10: 1.5–2 hours, 8–12 guests. Something that feels like a big deal.

  • Ages 11–12: 2 hours, 6–12 guests. Friend-group time, music and photos.

  • Ages 13–14: 2 hours, 6–12 guests. A grown-up feel: glam, playlists, privacy.

Ages 4–5: keep it short and sweet

Little kids love a theme they recognize, a few simple activities and cake. Plan short bursts of 10–15 minutes each.

  • Dress-up parade or a princess and superhero party

  • Bubble station and a dance party

  • Sticker art and cupcake decorating

  • On the spa bus: our Petite Glam party is 1 hour for 4 guests plus the birthday girl, a good size for first parties (Mon–Thu).

Ages 6–7: the "wow" years

Kids this age remember the big moment: the arrival, the reveal, the cake. They can handle one longer activity.

  • Slime making with take-home jars

  • Scavenger hunt with picture clues

  • Fashion show with dress-up clothes and sunglasses

  • On the spa bus: the moment the bus pulls up is the headline. Glitter makeup, mini manis and a runway walk fit this age well.

Ages 8–9: hands-on and take-home

Eight and nine-year-olds want to make something and show it off. This is one of the most popular ages we host.

  • DIY crafts: decorate trucker hats, backpacks or sunglasses

  • Baking or cupcake wars

  • Backyard movie night with popcorn bags

  • On the spa bus: pair a spa package with a DIY Collection or Slime Bar, or pick Glitz & Glam Crafts for an all-crafts party.

Age 10: double digits

Ten feels like a milestone, so the party should too. Kids this age love feeling a little older.

  • Glow party or neon dance party

  • Karaoke and a dance-off with judges

  • Spa day with facials, makeup and a photo shoot

  • On the spa bus: Super Star is our full experience, and our most popular package, at 1 hour 45 minutes.

Ages 11–12: the friend-group party

Tweens care most about time with their friends. Give them music, photos and room to hang out.

  • Sleepover or backyard camp-out

  • Game show or trivia night about the birthday girl

  • Paint party with a playlist

  • On the spa bus: karaoke, the photo booth and a runway finale make it feel like their own private club.

Ages 13–14: a grown-up feel

Teens want a party that doesn't feel "little kid." Let them help plan it.

  • Glam night with makeup and a photo shoot

  • Pajama brunch or a late-afternoon pool party

  • Big-group celebration with all their friends

  • On the spa bus: Mega Star fits 19 guests plus the birthday girl for 2 hours.

Tips for any age

  • Guest count: a common rule is the child's age plus one. Go smaller for younger kids.

  • Timing in Florida: mornings beat afternoon summer storms and heat. Have a covered or air-conditioned backup.

  • Invitations: send them 3–4 weeks ahead, and ask about allergies.

  • Mixed groups: pick activities everyone enjoys. Karaoke, games and photo booths work for boys and girls alike.
